Aircraft Software Engineer

The software engineer will work directly as part of the design team that will design, build, and test a prototype experimental aircraft in a fast-paced research and development environment. The flight software engineer will join a collaborative team to develop innovative aircraft solutions for multiple projects. The work will entail all aspects of design, development, test, and deployment. The work will span preliminary design, critical design, system design, manufacturing and assembly, and flight test. Typically, this work includes all aspects of the overall vehicle and associated systems. The work will also be very hands-on with fast paced aircraft component and system builds used for development.

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement simple, reliable, and fault tolerant software
  • Write comprehensive unit and regression tests
  • Test software in simulation and hardware-in-the-loop environments
  • Work with the team to establish software requirements and architecture

  • B.S. in computer science or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of related experience developing C++ applications for embedded, high-performance, or other mission critical applications
  • Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to perform duties autonomously without supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Hands on experience with aircraft, satellites, robotic systems, or similar
  • Demonstrated experience developing high-performance, object oriented software
  • Demonstrated experience with real-time embedded systems
  • Thorough attention to detail
  • Experience building prototypes
  • Flight test experience
  • Aircraft homebuilding experience or other hands-on design or build experience
  • Radio Control (RC) aircraft or rotorcraft design, build, and flight test experience
  • Pilot's license
  • Additional degrees or additional relevant work experience
