Located in Charlottesville, the University of Virginia is one of the nation's premier public research universities with a thriving academic medical center. U.S. News ranked UVA the number one hospital in Virginia, and honored three UVA specialties among the top 50 in the country. In 2019, UVA will celebrate the bicentennial of its founding by Thomas Jefferson. In advance of this milestone, we have begun planning for a capital campaign to strengthen the University's foundation for its third century. This significant effort will begin with a quiet launch in 2017, followed by a public phase starting in 2019 and concluding in 2026. University Leadership Characteristics: For Thomas Jefferson, learning was an integral part of life. The "academical village" was created around the assumption that learning is a lifelong and shared process, and that interaction between scholars and students enlivens the pursuit of knowledge.
