Job Responsibilities and Requirements

The Experience Strategy Executive must demonstrate ability to facilitate, influence, collaborate and establish accountability across senior leadership for strategic direction, planning and action.  The Experience Strategy Executive is expected to use their skill set and knowledge base to make an immediate impact. The role includes:

User and Customer Experience Leadership

  • Apply leading experience strategy research, methodology and best practices.
  • Maintain future awareness and perspective of behavioral and technology trends that could/should impact future business and experience strategies.
  • Lead and evaluate usability activities.
  • Plays integral role influencing and translating business strategy into member outcomes and experiences.
  • Influences and optimizes the strategy development operating model to ensure appropriate balance of business and experience inputs and outcomes.

Business Acumen

  • Expertly understands and analyzes: consumer behavior, such as buying factors and drivers of satisfaction related to direct to consumer sales; business trend monitoring; economic and financial market intelligence.
  • Consults with internal and external sources to profile dynamic market trends and opportunities.
  • Strong product and line of business skills in one or more of USAA’s lines of business or in the financial services industry overall.
  • Identifies intelligence, strategy and risk gaps.
  • Knowledge and awareness of key regulatory changes that influence consumer financial services business and products.


  • Ability to build and develop strong teams.
  • Ability to engage and motivate direct reports through team communication, performance goals, and individual development.
  • High energy, flexible team builder who sets high standards of performance.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.

Setting Strategy

  • Ability to innovate and think strategically with a proven “hands-on” approach.
  • Foundational understanding of established processes and frameworks to help accelerate strategic analysis and decision making.
  • Solid understanding of strategic issues and ability to articulate the business case for change.
  • Work with senior leaders and executive council members to refine experience strategic goals and vision.

Executing for Results

  • Ability to communicate a clearly defined and compelling vision and manage and inspire team(s) to achieve strategic goals.
  • Pristine communication and facilitation skills to support EC members and senior executive officers and senior executives across the enterprise.
  • Ability to communicate a clearly defined and compelling vision and manage and inspire team(s) to achieve strategic goals.

Communication Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; excellent relationship-building and listening skills.
  • Exemplary communication and facilitation skills to support Executive Council members and senior executive officers and senior executives across the enterprise.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to understand, simplify, and clearly articulate complex issues.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or related discipline such as behavioral sciences, communications, library science, psychology/liberal arts and IT.
  • Deep, demonstrated expertise in user experience strategy and design disciplines.
  • Ten or more years business expertise in user-created strategy design.
  • Two or more years of strategy experience in driving corporate/business strategies.
  • 6 or more years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams required.
  • 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • Proven leadership experience leading teams or projects.
  • Strategically focused and forward-thinking with proven track record.
  • Ability to see the big picture and work in ambiguity.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Advanced Degree in Business Administration, marketing, design, psychology, anthropology or other related field.
  • Experience leading lean UX efforts in agile product development environments.
  • Experience providing experience strategy and design consulting in an enterprise and / or agency setting.
  • Hands on experience in digital design and information architecture.
